Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had a sleepless night on Wednesday to monitor fighting fire at Chawkbazar in the capital and rescuing people.
Like Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his daughter Sheikh Hasina is always moved by any well and woes of the people of Bangladesh and even other parts of the world. Rehabilitation of over 10 lakh Rohingya displaced people from Myanmar bears testimony to her great heart and magnanimity.
Fire at Chawkbazar on Wednesday night killing scores of people and injuring hundreds others saddened the premier. She turned emotional and could not sleep. She monitored and supervised as to how flame was doused, bodies recovered and injured hospitalised. She witnessed frantic efforts on the part of the firemen.
Sheikh Hasina stared at the television footage of the horrific scene in stunned disbelief.
Sources said she contacted ministers, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon, and others concerned to discuss the effective ways to control the fire and minimize the loss of life and properties. She ordered financial assistance and logistic supports and compensation package for the victims. She ordered the best possible treatment for the injured and survivors.
