5 IU students suspended over ragging

KUSHTIA: The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia suspended five of its students of Social Welfare Department registrar office sources said it on Wednesday.

The decision came from an emergency meeting of the departmental academic committee with vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari in the chair, IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said.

The suspended students are Mehedi Hasan, Ahmed Zubayer Siddique, Muhit Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Roman and Sumaiya Khatun of second year students of the department for ragging three new enrollment female students of the same department.

The university authorities also from a three member probe body led by IU Social Sciences faculty dean Prof Nasim Banu to look into the matter. The body was asked to submit its report within seven working days.
