The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday recovered a government car from illegal possession of a former employee of Power Development Board (PDB).

On receipt of an allegation, a five-member ACC team led by its assistant director Salauddin Ahmed conducted a drive and recovered the pajero from Motijheel area in the capital.

However, the ACC officials released its driver after recording his statement.“PDB’s steno typist Md Alauddin Mia, who went on retirement on August, 2017 was using the government vehicle since 2009 although he was not entitled to use it,” said ACC director general (Admin) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury.

He said, “The third-class PDB employee, who was also general secretary of CBA, used the car for the last nine years although he was not entitled for it and caused a loss of Tk 72 lakh to the national exchequer.

Alauddin, who was posted at the Design and Inspection Department of PDB, used fuel worth Tk 35 lakh and spent Tk 37 lakh for his driver’s salary from the government fund in gross violation of the official rules.

Mentioning that the car was allocated for PDB, Munir Chowdhury said, “We are carrying out an inquiry over the incident and legal action will be taken against the person involved with the incident.”
