Speakers at a human chain on Saturday demanded Tk 10 crore in compensation for Jaha Alam, who had been languishing in jail for three years instead of the real accused.

They also urged the government to identify the persons responsible for the whole situation so that nobody becomes victim like him.

Sammilito Samajik Andolon organised the human chain in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh intersection demanding compensation for Jaha Alam.

Speakers said the state or Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) cannot avoid the responsibility for the inhuman behaviour with the victim.

“We demand Tk 10 crore in compensation for Jaha Alam,” said a speaker at a human chain.

A jute mill worker, Jaha Alam had been languishing in jail since February 2016 instead of the real accused in 33 corruption cases filed by the ACC.

He was released from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur on February 4 after the High Court exonerated him from the charges on the previous day.
