Two ‘drug peddlers’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with rivals

COX’S BAZAR: Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two rival groups reportedly over share of drug at Teknaf upazila in the district on early Monday.

The deceased were identified as Delwar Hossain Rubel, 20, son of Farid Alam, and Md Rafiq, 55, son of Safar Mian, both hailed from the Teknaf upazila.

Officer in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das of concerned Teknaf police station said on information of gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers reportedly over share of drugs in Nayapara Battali area under Hoaikong union of the upazila, a team of police rushed to the spot around 4:30am.  Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the feuding drug peddlers left the scene, he said.

Later, police recovered the bullet-hit bodies of Rubel and Rafiq from the spot and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said.

Two light guns (LGs), six rounds of bullet and 4,000 pieces of Yaba pill were also recovered from the spot, said Pradip.     Filing of case in this connection was under process, added the OC.
