The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday found proof of irregularities at four offices of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in four districts.
ACC four enforcement teams conducted the sudden drives at BRTA Ekuria in Dhaka, Khulna, Sylhet, and Pabna offices after receiving allegation of irregularities through ACC hotline 106.
A six-member ACC team, including Assistant director Jahid Kalam conducted a drive at BRTA Ekuria office in Keraniganj where they found proof of irregularities.
The team members found massive irregularities at every step of issuing driving licenses, vehicles registration certificates and fitness certificates at the office.
Sensing presence of the ACC team, brokers fled the spot but one of the brokers caught red-handed along with money. BRTA magistrate awarded 15-day imprisonment to the broker and fined him Tk 8,000.
Meanwhile, three others ACC teams conducted sudden drives at Pabna, Khulna and Sylhet BRTA offices at the same time on Sunday.
The ACC officials found many irregularities and they also found absences of many officials and employees at the offices.
During the drives, ACC officials also distributed the commission’s leaf-let among the services seekers and asked them to inform over ACC hotline 106 if they see any kinds of corruption.
ACC Director General M Munir Chowdhury said ACC would take legal action directly against the involved person, if discipline will not return at the BRTA offices.
“There is no alternative of introducing automation and digitalization process at the offices to prevent irregularities at the offices,” he added.
