RMG exports to reach $100bn by 2024: Tipu Munshi

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurates the four-day long Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show-2019 at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Wednesday. FBCCI President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman were present on the occasion.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday expressed his optimism that export earnings from the country’s readymade garments (RMG) will reach to US$100 billion by 2024 from the current level of about $30 billion.

“The government is working relentlessly to reach the $50 billion RMG export target by 2021. If we try hard, it is possible to take it ( export earnings from RMG sector) to $100 billion by 2024”, said the commerce minister while addressing the inauguration programme of 15th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show-2019 at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.

Addressing the programme Tipu said that the apparel sector has huge contributions to the country’s economy.  “Our vision is to achieve the middle income country status by 2021 and enter to the developed countries line by 2040”, said the minister adding that about 60 lakh workers are dependent on this industry.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President  Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Md. SiddiqurRahman, Centre Of Excellence for Bangladesh Apparel Industry (CEBAI) President Md. Atiqul Islam, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA) First Vice President Mansoor Ahmed, The Sub-Council of Textile Industry CCPIT (CCPIT TEX) Director Shen Zhen and CEMS Global – USA & Asia Pacific President & Group Managing Director Meherun N. Islam were presents as special guests at the event.

After getting overwhelming response to the previous edition, CEMS Global - Conference & Exhibition Management Services Ltd and The Sub-Council of Textile Industry (CCPIT TEX), China have once again partnered to organize the15th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show-2019.

This year 370 Int’l exhibitors from over 22 countries around the world are showcasing their up-to-date fabrics, which are ready-to-use for garment, accessories, industrial use and other various applications.
