Mobile phone user to be able to lock stolen handset soon

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is going to launch a new service which will give facility to mobile phone users in Bangladesh to lock their stolen phones.

 

The service called International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number database will be launched on Tuesday (Tomorrow), Zahid Hossain Khan, BTRC senior assistant director told on Monday.

 

Posts, telecommunications and information technology minister Mustafa Jabbar will inaugurate the service at the BTRC office in the capital.

 

Any mobile phone user could receive the service through a short code ‘16002’.

 

With this IMEI database, users' mobile handset identity will be linked and stored along with the SIM card number and national ID details.

 

One can send your IMEI number through an SMS to 16002 to check whether your IMEI has been included in the database.
