A Dhaka court on Monday sent former national footballer Kaiser Hamid to jail rejecting his bail petition in connection with a case filed on charges of embezzlement of funds.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid passed the order after CID inspector Md Shamsuddin produced him before the court with a plea to send him to jail.Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday arrested the former national footballer Kaiser Hamid around 10:00pm from a hotel at Dhaka’s Elephant Road following an arrest warrant issued against him in a case.
Police said Kaiser Hamid had a company named ‘New Way Multipurpose Cooperative Society’. Using the farm, he took money from people and failed to return that amount. The company was shut eight ago. Later, an arrest warrant was issued against him on charges of embezzlement of funds.
He has been arrested in a 2014 case filed with the Banani police station in Dhaka.
A towering central defender, Kaisar Hamid Kaiser was captain of the national football team for many years.
Kaiser’s father, the late MA Hamid, who retired from the Bangladesh Army as a lieutenant colonel, was also a noted sports personality. He had received numerous awards, including the National Sports Award.
He is the son of prominent chess player Rani Hamid, a women’s chess International Master.Kaiser entered into politics after retiring from football in the early 90s. He ran with Zaker Party’s ticket in the national election.
