Actor Tanvir found dead in his Uttara house

Body of film actor and director Tanvir Hasan Sumon was found hanging from the ceiling of his residence at Uttara in the capital on

Friday noon.

Abdur Rahim, a sub-inspector (SI) at Uttara (east) police station, said, “Being informed, police rushed to the Uttara house on Road No-4, Sector No-4 around 12:30pm and found the body hanging with its ceiling.”

Later, police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy following its recovery from the house.

Quoting his wife, Kohinoor Nahar Akhanda, Uttara (east) police informed that Tanvir was mentally ill for a long time.

Police suspected that he might have committed suicide because of mental ailment.

“The cause of the death will be ascertained after receiving the autopsy report,” the SI said.

A female domestic help first saw the body around 10:30am when she entered the room which was not locked.

  Tanvir was a member of Dhaka Little Theatre.  Later, he worked as a short film director alongside acting.

Also a fashion designer and a photographer, he became famous within a short time by producing advertisements. 

He passed the HSC examination from Dhaka Government College and did his Honours and Masters in Drama and Dramatics from Jahangirnagar University.
