Khulna journalist Hedait’s bail extended till Jan 29

A Khulna court on Monday extended the bail of journalist Hedait Hossain Mollah till January 29 in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

Hedait, the district correspondent of Bangla Tribune, was accused of using 'false' information in a report on the election results of Khunla-1 constituency.

Khulna District and Sessions Judge Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury accepted Hedait's bail extension petition and fixed January 29 for hearing a petition seeking permanent bail for the journalist, reports UNB.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Debashish Chowdhury filed a case at Batiaghata Police Station on December 31 against Hedait and Rashedul Islam, Khulna Bureau Chief of Dainik Manabzamin and newly-elected vice-president of Khulna Press Club.

The case statement claimed false and fabricated information was used in Bangla Tribune and Manabzamin's reports titled '22,419 more than total votes cast in Khulna-1'.

Police arrested Hedait, also the city editor of Dainik Probaho, on January 1. The next day, the court put him on remand. The District and Sessions Judge's Court on January 3 granted the journalist bail until January 14.
