Prime Minister to pay homage to Bangabandhu at Tungipara today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina goes to Tungipara of Gopalganj today to pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of installation of her government for the third consecutive term.

The prime minister, flanked by new cabinet colleagues, will pay tributes to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his shrine in Tungipara, sources at the Prime Minister’s Office said.

A smartly turned out contingent to be drawn from the three forces will give an honour guard to the prime minister on the occasion.

Sheikh Hasina will join a special munajat and offer fateha seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the premier paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War on Tuesday on the occasion of installation of her government for the third consecutive term.

Accompanied by the new cabinet colleagues, Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the martyrs by placing a wreath at the altar of the National Memorial at Savar yesterday morning, a day after she took oath as the prime minister for the fourth time.

The prime minister and her new cabinet colleagues earlier paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the capital.

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina took oath as the prime minister for the fourth time, the third in a row, heading a 47-member council of ministers on Monday, a week after the Awami League-led Grand Alliance’s landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary election held on December 30.

The new cabinet comprising 24 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers took oath at a state ceremony at Bangabhaban Darbar Hall on Monday afternoon.

President M Abdul Hamid administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to Sheikh Hasina and members of her council of ministers.
