Abducted man found dead in port city

CHATTOGRAM: Body of a person, who was allegedly abducted from Raozan upazila on Saturday, was recovered from a water-body at Hathazari upazila in the district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Alam, 60, son of late Sultan Ahmed of Urkirchar union under the Raozan upazila. He was a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver by profession.

Sources said there had dispute between Nurul and a local over family issue.

A group of five to six masked miscreants stabbed Nurul with sharp weapons at Urkirchar Bazar on Saturday morning.

Later, they took away the victim along with his auto-rickshaw from the Bazar around 9:00am. Being informed by the victim’s family, police launched drives in search for Nurul in different areas of the upazila, but failed to know his whereabouts.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kefayet Ullah of Raozan Police Station said on information, they rushed to the spot and recovered the body from ‘Chandra Beel’ in Shikarpur area under the Hathazari upazila in the morning.

The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, he said.

Marks of injury by sharp weapon were found on different parts of the body, the police officer said adding that they were trying to unearth motive behind the murder.

Filing of a murder case in this connection was under process, the OC added.
