Emergency call service 999 will provide information on propaganda and rumours spread on the social media over the December 30 parliamentary elections.
If anyone dials 999 to know about the authenticity of any report or photo or video on the social media, the caller will be informed of the matter, sources in police headquarters said.
On December 12, 2017, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT affairs adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, formally inaugurated the emergency service.
It has gained popularity as many of the callers get benefits from the service.
Police have already enhanced vigilance on the social media, particularly on Facebook, as they have found many reports, photos and videos posted there as part of propaganda over the elections.
In addition to the specialised units of police to combat cyber-crimes, a number of policemen at the Police Headquarters have been assigned to keep vigilance on Facebook.
