Ruling Awami League has said Jatiya Oikya Front’s pledge to continue the trial of war criminals and their stance against corruption is a mockery with the nation.

“It’s nothing but mockery with the nation that Oikya Front will continue the trial of war criminals and prevent corruption if they win [the upcoming national election],” party Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman said at a press conference on Monday.

Mentioning that over 23 war criminals and their descendants are participating in the polls, Rahman said that they (war criminals and their descendants) are contesting the polls with the ‘sheaf of paddy’.

“It is unbelievable and ridiculous that Oikya Front will continue to try war criminals,” he said, adding that they are mocking with the nation by presenting such election manifesto.

“How can they take a stand against war-criminals when they themselves have sheltered and nominated them?” he questioned.

Questioning the opposition alliance’s pledge to make the country corruption-free, Rahman said, “Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have both been convicted in graft cases. Their pledge of building the country from corruption is nothing but hypocrisy.”

Regarding Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain’s reservations about fair polls, Rahman said that it is a ploy to foil the upcoming polls slated for December 30.

“The election will take place on December 30. But isolated incidents took place as a result of their nomination trade and subsequent disappointment among the party men,” the AL leader said.

AL leaders Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Ahmad Hossain, BM Mozammel Huq, AFM Bahauddin Nasim were also present at the press conference.
