Naogaon farmers happy with Thai guava yield

NAOGAON: With assistance of authority concern, Thai guava variety cultivation is gaining momentum due to its good profit from last few years in Naogaon district.

Meanwhile, its cultivation has brought smile to several hundred unemployed farmers in the district as they are getting both bumper production and fair price. The farming is expanding rapidly across the district as the farmers are earning much money from the crops.

The farmers are being mostly inspired to bring new crop land under Thai guava variety cultivation from last couple of years since local agricultural offices of the region support smooth technical process.

In a recent visit at the field level cropland the correspondent found the farmers are passing busy time to take care at the Guava farms aiming being financially solvent. Female members of the region are engaged with the farming.

“I have brought over three bighas of land under Thai guava cultivation this season,” said a farmer under Raninagar upazila of the district. “I have got good profit from the farming as I sell the produced fruits in satisfactory price.” he added.

If the farmers ensure smooth technical support in the sapling, they can harvest the fruit after a year of its sapling plantation. The farmers are selling each maund of fruits at Tk 2000 to 2100 in the retail markets while Tk 1600 to 1700 in the wholesale markets.

When contracted Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Dr. Abdul Aziz said the farmers have cultivated the fruit on 360 hectares of land this season across all eleven upazilas of the region. The amount may cross next year if the farmers get more benefits, he added.
