Jatiya Oikya Front’s top leader Dr Kamal Hossain in a media release on Saturday regretted his yesterday’s comments towards the journalist.
“If my words hurt anyone, I sincerely regret this,” he said.
In the media release sent today, he also said: “I felt very disturbed when I heard the word Jamaat being repeated for the third time from the crowd. I then urged the person speaking to stop.”
“I was suddenly asked a question about the Jatiya Oikyafront and Jamaat. I said that this is a deeply emotional day and I do not want to make any comments on this subject in this place today (yesterday) but the person speaking was continuing,” he described the Friday’s situation.
“So if my statement hurts or embarrasses anyone in some way, then I am sorry,’ he said.
Dr Kamal on Friday lashed out at journalists when he was asked about his stance on Jamaat-e-Islami, which had openly opposed Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971.
