Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University (BSMRDU) Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Munaz Ahmed Noor paid rich tributes to the martyred intellectuals on the occasion of the Martyred Intellectuals Day.
He placed wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Mirpur in the capital and stood there in solemn silence for a while as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the illustrious sons of the soil, said a press release.
After placing the wreath, VC Munaz Ahmed Noor said, “On the night of December 14, 1971, Pakistani occupation forces, aided by their local collaborators Razakar, Al Badar, Al Shamas, picked up veteran intellectuals and murdered them.
He said, “The intellectuals were taken blindfold to torture cells in Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Nakhalpara, Rajarbagh and other locations in different parts of the city and later executed en masse at different killing grounds, most notably Rayerbazar and Mirpur.”
He also added, “Sensing the complete rout of the occupation forces, they executed the heinous killings to make the future of Independent Bangladesh meritless.”
Among others, Md. Ashraf Uddin, Director of Finance and Accounts of the university, Senior System Analyst Muhammad Shahinul Kabir and other officers and employees of the university were also present.
