Mashrafe creates record by leading Bangladesh in max ODIs

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the Bangladesh ODI captain, has created a new history playing the second encounter of three-match series against West Indies by equaling the record of Habibul Bashar to lead Tigers in most ODIs.

Mashrafe has all the chances to surpass his predecessor in the third and final match of the series that is slated to be played in Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Habibul Bashar was the other captain of Bangladesh who led the Tigers in 69 ODIs. In his tenure, Bangladesh won 29 ODIs. Mashrafe already surpassed him as the Tigers won 39 before today’s (Tuesday) match under his captaincy.

Mashrafe captained visiting Bangladesh for the first time in 2010 against England at Nottingham. He has led the Tigers till October 2010 in the first stint and again got the captaincy back in 2014 after a horrible time in limited-overs cricket under Musfiqur Rahim.

Since then, Masrhafe led the Tigers in 62 ODIs including today’s one. He will be continuing to lead the side to the World Cup next year in England as per the BCB contact.

Mashrafe, who recently joined politics for the ruling party Awami League, is supposed to announce the retirement after the World Cup, though, he did not mention an exact time to say goodbye.
