A total of 2,79,272 students of honours and equivalent level were awarded stipends from the prime minister’s education assistance trust fund this year.
The Ministry of Education inaugurated the stipend distribution ceremony at a formal programme held at the conference room of the ministry on Sunday. Secondary and Higher Education Division secretary Md Sohorab Hossain chaired the occasion.
Sohorab Hossain said each student will get Tk 4,900 from the PM’s education assistance trust fund and selected students may withdraw the money through mobile banking of Dutch Bangla Bank for continuation of their studies.
Technical and Madrasah Education Division secretary Md Alamgir, Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust fund managing director ABM Zakir Hossain, and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education director general Prof Syad Md Golam Faruk, among others, were present on the occasion.
According to ministry sources, nearly 3 lakh students get stipend from the PM’s education assistance trust every year. As many as 7,46,192 students were given stipend amounting Tk 411. 16crore during a period between 2014 and 2017.
The main objective of the Trust is to provide stipend to poor and meritorious students.
