The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday turned down candidature of BNP leader Amanullah Aman from Dhaka-2 constituency for contesting the 11th parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, the commission cleared the way for BNP leader Mirza Abbas and Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA) chief Nazmul Huda for contesting the upcoming polls.
During the hearing, the EC accepted the appeal of Nazmul Huda to contest the general election from Dhaka-17 constituency.
The EC also turned down a petition filed by Workers Party of Bangladesh chief Rashed Khan Menen challenging the legality of the candidature of Mirza Abbas from Dhaka-8 constituency.
The EC began hearing of the remaining 233 petitions, filed against the decisions of returning officers concerned over the disqualification and acceptance of nomination papers.
