'Broom procession' against AL candidate in Kachua

Kachua upzila Mohila Awami League unit declared Golam Hossain, Awami League-nominated candidate in Chandpur-1 constituency, persona non-grata in Kachua upazila.

A group of women also brought out a 'broom procession' against him on Friday. Rownak Ara Ratna, female affairs secretary of upazila AL, Salma Sahid, Mohila AL upazila unit president and its general secretary Taslima Chowdhury, led the procession.

They started the march from in front of the upazila AL office in the afternoon and ended at Kachua bypass road after parading the main roads of the upazila headquarters, reports UNB.

Later, the agitating women burned an effigy of Golam Hossain, former chairman of National Board of Revenue.

Speaking on the occasion, Ratna said Golam Hossain has a connection with the upazila Awami League. "Leaders and activists of upazila AL and its associate bodies won't accept anyone except Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir in this seat," she said.

The ruling party handed out nomination papers to both Mohiuddin and Golam Hossain for contesting the upcoming general election from Chandpur-1 (Kachua) constituency.

Both of them also filed nomination papers to the returning officer.
