CHATTOGRAM: With immersion of idols of Durga the festivity of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of Hindu community, concluded in the port city as elsewhere in the country on Friday.

Thousands of devotees thronged at the city’s Patenga Sea Beach to bid farewell to the goddess Durga by trucks and private vehicles.

The immersion of idols started around 12noon and continued till evening at the Patenga Sea Beach - the largest spot for immersion in the city, said sources in Chattogram Mohanagar Puja Udjapan Parishad.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) in association with Puja Udjapan Parishad also organised a programme at the sea beach.

Chattogram district Puja Udjapan Parishad President Shamal Kumar Palit told the daily sun that they immersed almost all idols by 7:00pm.

“We peacefully celebrated the Durga puja as local administration and law enforces provided us all out support to make the programme successful,” he said.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and local administration took sufficient security measures in and around Patenga Sea Beach to avert any untoward incident, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Utpal Kumar Barua of Patenga Police Station.
