A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion on Sunday seized 215 tonnes of open market sale (OMS) rice and wheat smuggled out from a government silo in the capital.
Manager of the government silo Humayun Kabir and another person were arrested in this connection, a RAB officer said. The mobile court, led by Sarwar Alam, executive magistrate of RAB-3, conducted overnight drives in government silo in Tejgaon and Krishi Market in Mohammadpur and seized food grains.
The magistrate said the rice and wheat were meant to be sold through 141 trucks at a reduced price for low-income people. But a syndicate was selling the grains in the black market.
“Last night, eight truckloads of 115 tonnes of food grains were being smuggled into Chuadanga, Srimangal and Maona when RAB personnel conducted the drive in Tejgaon,” he added.
