Two people died of ‘heatstroke’ while collecting Zakat clothes at the residence of Sirajganj Zila Parishad Chairman Abdul Latif Biswas in Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj on Friday.

Dr Shakil Hamza, medical officer of Belkuchi Upazila Health Complex, said a number of people thronged the residence of Latif, also former Livestock and Fisheries minister, in the morning for taking zakat clothes.

Two people became sick due to scorching heat as a heat wave is sweeping the district for the last several days, he said.

The duo was taken to a hospital where doctors declared them dead around 11:30 am, said Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Belkuchi Police Station.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
