A group of Chinese businessmen on Friday said Bangladesh is a very attractive destination for their investments, according to the Bangladesh embassy in China.
They made this comment while speaking at a China-Bangladesh Business Forum at Hotel St. Regis in Beijing.The Embassy of Bangladesh in Beijing and the China Top500 Foreign Trade Enterprises Club jointly arranged the event.
Bangladesh Ambassador to China M Fazlul Karim inaugurated the programme in the presence of a good number of representatives of prominent Chinese companies and businessmen.
In his speech, the ambassador briefed the audience on Bangladesh’s landmark achievements in numerous sectors.
“The country’s recent graduation from the LDCs to a developing country status is a testimony of significant progress the country has been making in both social and economic sector,” he added.
Referring to the Visions 2021 and 2041, the ambassador stated that rapid industrialisation was needed to spur faster economic growth, and those higher levels of FDI flow is required for that to happen.
The country’s rapid progress, coupled with pro-business and pro-investment policies adopted by the government and a variety of competitive fiscal and non-fiscal incentives such as full repatriation of capital, duty drawbacks, tax exemptions, duty free import of machineries etc. for foreign investors, has helped Bangladesh emerge as a hotspot for foreign investments, he continued.The ambassador then highlighted different traditional and non-traditional sectors like shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, light engineering, jute, ICT, Infrastructure, tourism, where Chinese companies can focus for their investments.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is a bridge between South and South East Asia, the Bangladesh ambassador urged Chinese investors to reap the benefit of this huge market.
“There are numerous areas to further expand the ever-increasing trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and China,” the ambassador said.
Later the Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy made an elaborate power-point presentation on business environment and investment facilities available in the country.
The Forum generated keen interest among Chinese investors to further expand their footprint in Bangladesh.
While speaking at the Forum, a number of senior executives of some prominent Chinese companies commended Bangladesh for creating a pro-business environment.
Narrating their experience about setting up of factories and offices in Bangladesh, they appreciated the friendly attitude of the people as well as of the business community of Bangladesh.
They praised the stable political environment and expressed the hope that Bangladesh would soon become a prosperous country.
Yang Qingyun, General Manager of Shandong Water conservancy construction Group of Co, shared his experience of working in Bangladesh and urged other entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh.
During the Q&A session, investors expressed their willingness to explore new areas for cooperation in river dredging, automotive, agriculture and irrigation, airport building etc.
The ambassador replied to the queries and comments of the participants.
