National Professor and Language Movement hero Professor Mustafa Nur-Ul Islam has died on Wednesday. He was 91.

The eminent litterateur passed away at his residence in the capital around 9:30pm.

Born in Bogura on May 1, 1927, he got Ekushey Padak in 1981 and Swadhinata Padak in 2010.

Graduating from Calcutta University in 1948, Professor Mustafa Nur-Ul Islam did his post-graduation from Dhaka University and PhD from London University.

Prof Mustafa Nur-Ul Islam was the head of Bangla department of the Jahangirnagar University and also taught at the Rajshahi University.
