The controversy rises following the cartoon as they believe it looks like the word Mohammed in Arabic or Urdu
Muslims in India have called for a boycott of and a ban on Pampers products claiming that they have seen the word ‘Mohammed’ in the face of a cartoon cat which appears on its diapers, according to media reports.
The lines illustrating the whiskers, nose, mouth and left eye of the cat allegedly bear a close resemblance to the Prophet’s name when written in Arabic or Urdu.
A section of Muslims has branded the image an insult to Islam.
They demanded arrest of and punish for those responsible for the insult to the Prophet and Islam.
Video footage going viral shows outraged parents torching piles of Pampers Baby Dry Pants in the streets of India in protest.
Protesters lodged a formal complaint with Dabeerpura Police Station in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
In a letter to police, they said Pampers, a brand of US multinational Procter & Gamble, has hurt the feelings of the Muslims.
They also called for the products to be taken off the shelves immediately.
“Even with (the) bare eye it is been identified that the name of Prophet (PBUH) can be seen printed on it in Urdu/Arabic,” read the letter.
It added that the Prophet Mohammed was a holy personality in Islam and any disrespect to him cannot be tolerated.
According to report of the Sun UK, many social media users joined the calls for a Pampers boycott.
Nasar Alam Khan wrote: “Please request every Muslim brother and sister to boycott this product. It’s the only way to prove our strength and the love for our Prophet.”
Azam Shariff said: “Maybe it’s the fault of the creative team but whatever the case is, directly or indirectly, it’s manifesting the name of (our) holy Prophet. That is a sheer desecration, it’s insulting. Don’t use the products until they change this, until they apologise."
