Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed profound shock at the death of ex-mayor of Rangpur City Corporation Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu.
In a condolence message, the Prime Minister recalled with profound respect the contributions of Jhantu to the development of Rangpur city.
"His death is an irreparable loss to Rangpur as well as the country," she said, reports UNB.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Jhantu, also a former MP and an advisory council member of Rangpur district Awami League, breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) here around 3:30 pm. He was 66.
He was admitted to the hospital on February 4 following a brain hemorrhage.
