Bangladesh Ship Recycling Bill, 2018 passed in JS

The Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday passed the "Bangladesh Ship Recycling Bill, 2018" with a provision to update for overall development of the ship recycling sector.


Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu moved the bill in the House. The bill was passed in the House by voice votes with Deputy Speaker M Fazley Rabbi Miah in the chair.


Piloting the bill, he said the bill proposed constituting a new authority in the name of Bangladesh Ship Recycling Board to supervise the ship recycling industry. The board would be constituted with 14 members. It will have to sit at least once in 4 months, reports BSS. 


According to the bill, any person establish yard without government approval he or she would be faced two years imprisonment or Taka 10 lakh to Taka 30 lakh as fine or both the penalty would be applicable.
