ACC arrests brokerage house chief on graft charges

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a businessman from the capital in a case filed for amassing wealth illegally.


A team of ACC cordoned off the house of Pankaj Kumar Roy in the city's Dhanmondi area overnight and arrested him around 10:00 am on Monday, UNB reports quoting ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.


Earlier, a case was filed against him for allegedly achieving assets illegally.


According to the case documents, the broker house chairman submitted an accounts statement showing his total wealth was Tk 219,385,302, of which Tk 85,041,106 was unaccounted for.


Another case, filed by the anti-graft body, accuses him of money laundering through hundis.


Stock market regulator Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission had fined Alliance Securities Tk 5 million at the beginning of this year for giving loans to close relatives, including his wife as well as the wife of the managing director illegal.
