Kamaruzzaman buried in Sherpur

An ambulance carrying the body of executed war criminal Kamaruzzaman leaves the Dhaka Central Jail at 11:40pm yesterday

The executed war criminal and Jamaat leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman was buried at his village graveyard in Sherpur on Sunday morning.
He was buried at 5:20am beside the orphanage of Kumri Bajitkhola under Sherpur sadar upazila as per his last wish to be buried there, said his elder brother Kafil Uddin.
After his Namaz-e-Janaza around 4:50am, administered by Maolana Abdul Hamid, held in Mudipara village of Bajitkhola union under Sherpur sadar upazila, he was buried.
Earlier at 4:20am, his body was taken to his village in Sherpur district.
Carrying his body, an ambulance, escorted by vehicles of Rapid Action Battalion and Police, started for Sherpur from Dhaka Central Jail at 11:40pm on Saturday.
To contain any untoward incident following Kamaruzzaman's burial, the government deployed four platoons of BGB men, four platoons of RAB personnel and riot police at key points in Sherpur district.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was hanged on Saturday night for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
He was executed around 10:30pm in Dhaka Central Jail amid beefed up security.
On May 9 last year, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Kamaruzzaman, one of the key organisers of the Al-Badr force, to death.
