Road accidents kill 17 in 5 districts

At least 17 people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents in five districts on Friday.
In Mymensingh, five people including two women were killed as a passenger bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Sadar upazila this evening.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The deadly accident took place at around 7:00pm as the Mymensingh-bound bus from Gouripur upazila of the district rammed the auto-rickshaw on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Ragabpur area, said Abu Md Fazlul Karim, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station.
In protesting the incident, the agitating people of the locality blocked the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road as the normal vehicular movement has been disrupted.
Three passengers of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, the OC said.
Another injured was undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
In Narayanganj, three people were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Fatullah area of Narayanganj district on Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Alauddin, 37, of capital’s Eskaton area, his daughter Sumaiya, 7, and the driver of the auto-rickshaw.
Shawpan Kumar Das, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Fatullah Model Police Station, said the deadly accident took place on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road in Bhuirarh area as a truck rammed a battery-run auto-rickshaw (easy bike), leaving four people of the auto-rickshaw, including a child, injured critically on the spot.
Of the injured, Sumaiya and the driver of the auto-rickshaw died on the way to Narayanganj hospital at Khanpur. While, Alauddin died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), the SI said.
In Jhenaidah, four people were killed and four others injured when a truck crashed into a betel-laden tempo in Dudhsar area under Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah district Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Safiuddin Safi, 35, son of Abdul Gafur Bishwas, Mojibar Rahman, 37, son of Roushan Ali, and Riazul Islam, 40, son of Abdur Razzak, of Kanarpukur village of Shailkupa upzila and Aminul Islam, son of Yusuf Ali of Charpara village of Harinakundu upazila of the district.
Two of the injured were identified as Milon and Alamgir.
The accident took place when a speedy truck ran over a Jhenaidah-bound tempo, coming from opposite direction, in Dudhsar Residential Area around 6:30am, killing four people on the spot and injuring four others, said Jhenaidah Fire Service and Civil Defense station officer Abdur Rauf Mollah.
Shailkupa Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Hashem Khan confirming the matter said Fire Service personnel from Jhenaidah Sadar and Shailkupa upzilas rescued the injured and took them to the district Sadar Hospital.
In Munshiganj: three people were killed and two others injured in a road accident at Jamaldi Bus-stand on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway under Gajaria upazila of the district this noon.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
In-charge of Vaberchar highway police camp M Saifyul Islam said the accident occurred when a truck hit a standing CNG run auto rickshaw and a rickshaw in the area as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving three people dead on the spot and two others injured.
The injured were sent to local hospital.
In Sylhet, two motorcyclists were killed as a truck knocked the motorcycle around 4:30pm on Biswanathpur-Jagannathpur road in Bagichabazar area under Biswanath upazila of the district Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Noman Ahmed, 16, son of one Motsin Ali and Khaled Ahmed, 15, son of one Tajul Islam, residents of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Biswanath Thana Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.
