Ambassador Mijarul’s first janaza held at MoFA

The first namaz-e-janaza of former Foreign Secretary and Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil Mohamed Mijarul Quayes was held at the Foreign Ministry on Monday morning.


Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Finance MA Mannan, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and current and former diplomats attended his Janaza.


His body was taken to the central Shaheed Minar at 10 am and kept till 12 pm where people from all strata paid their last respects to him.


The body of late Mijarul Quayes was brought Dhaka from Brazil shortly after Monday midnight.


Deputy Chief of Mission at the Bangladesh Embassy in Brasilia Shumona Iqbal and family members of Quayes accompanied the body.


His second namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque (Gulshan-2) after Asr prayers, said his colleagues.


Quayes will be buried at Banani Graveyard.


Quayes breathed his last at a hospital in Brasilia, Brazil at 6 am (BST) on March 11 at the age of 57.


He served as a Foreign Secretary at the ministry during 2009-12.


Quayes is survived by wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his premature death.
