Bangladesh fetched $22.83 billion from exports in the first eight months of the current 2016-17 fiscal, according to latest official figures.
The amount is 3.22 percent higher than $22.13 billion earned during the same period last year, according to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data.
The readymade garment sector contributed a large portion of the total export income. Earnings from knitwear exports stood at $9.08 billion during the July-February period of the current fiscal year, posting a 5.01 percent year-on-year growth. Woven garments export grew by 0.83 percent compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal to $9.56 billion.
EPB data also show that other major export items including jute and jute goods and leather and leather products had also performed well during the July-February period.
