The government has appointed Maj Gen Md Nazimuddin a new chief of general staff (CGS) and brought some major changes in the top brass in the Bangladesh Army yesterday.

 

Md Nazimuddin, currently General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry Division and Jessore area commander will take over Lt Gen Sabbir Ahmed’s position as Sabbir Ahmed has gone on Leave Preparatory to Retirement (LPR).

 

In this move, The Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) got a new director general as well.

 

Maj Gen Md Saiful Abedin, will be the new director general of the military intelligence body DGFI, succeeding Maj Gen Mohammad Akbar Hossain.

 

Saiful Abedin is now commandant of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC).

 

After heading the DGFI for four years, Akbar Hossain will move on to his new role as GOC of 9th Infantry Division at Savar.

 

The Ministry of Defence issued an order relating to the new appointments on Thursday, said the ISPR.

 

The incumbent GOC Maj Gen Waqar-uz-Zaman has been made military secretary (MS) of the Bangladesh Army, a role previously held by Maj Gen Abdullahil Baki and Baki has been made commandant of DSCSC.

 

Major Gen Ataul Hakim Sarwar, GOC of 10 Infantry Division has been made commander of Logistics Area in at Dhaka Cantonment and Maj Gen Maksud, previously deputy force commander of UN missions will lead 10 Infantry Division in Ramu of Cox's Bazar as the GOC.

 

Director of Military Operations (DMO) Brig Gen Nayeem Ashfaq Chowdhury is the new GOC of 55 Infantry Division and Jessore area commander.

 

New CGS Maj Gen Nazimuddin would be promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and new GOC of 55 Infantry Division Brig Gen Ashfaq would be promoted to the rank of major general at their new offices, said an ISPR official.
