Former Managing Director of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited’s (BTCL) SOM Kalimullah has been granted an eight-week interim bail on Tuesday.
The Appellate Division granted the bail after hearing an appeal filed by Kalimullah against the High Court’s verdict that had sentenced him to four-month for contempt.
Kalimullah was sent to the Dhaka Central Jail On December 4 soon after the High court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Hasan in a verdict sentenced him to four-month imprisonment for defying its order while he was in office. The HC also fined Kalimullah Tk one lakh or suffer one more month of imprisonment, in default.
The court sentenced Kalimullah for flouting its order that asked the BTCL to keep only Tk 68,17,671, out of Tk 1.40 crore, from Singapore-based Oxinel Services Pvt. Ltd. as guarantee money on a business agreement. The money was cashed from IFIC bank on May 4, 2011.
