Ganatantro Mukti Dibas was observed in the country today marking the fall of autocratic ruler HM Ershad in 1990.
Different political, social and cultural organizations chalked out various programmes marking the day.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday in a message urged all to work together to strengthen the foundation of democracy.
General Ershad ousted Justice Sattar and assumed power in 1982 and continued his autocratic rule up to 1990. In 1990, he was forced to step down following a pro democracy mass-upheaval led by Awami League.
Many including Noor Hossain and Doctor Milon made supreme sacrifice in the anti-autocratic movement.
