Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday warned that colleges would be closed down if the authorities fail to ensure the attendance of teachers and students in classes.
While addressing an orientation and workshop of the principals of the government colleges held at National Academy of Educational Management (Naem), the education minister said this.
“Attendance of teachers and students in classes would have to be ensured. Otherwise we will shut down those colleges. What will we do with those?” Nahid said expressing his unhappiness.
Around 300 college principals took part in the workshop titled “My Thought about College”.
Sharing his own experience regarding college inspection, the minister said, “The students go to coaching centres while most of the teachers also are involved in the coaching business. You (principals) should ensure their attendance in the college.”
Addressing the principals Nahid said, "You have taken the responsibility, so you should ensure the attendance of the teachers'. You will fix the way and we will cooperate."
Regrding anarchy in the educational institution, the Education Minister said, "You should manage the situation tactfully to ensure the congenial atmosphere.
