BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has left Dhaka for Comilla to join a public rally at Comilla Town Hall ground arranged by 20-party alliance. She is scheduled to address the rally at 3:30pm.
Khaleda’s motorcade left her Gulshan residence around 10:35am on Saturday.
The rally aims to mobilise public support in the favour of the alliance's demand for holding a fresh national elections under a non-party government and to protest against the ruling party’s repression towards BNP.
This is Khaleda’s 9th district tour after the January-5 election boycotted by the BNP-led opposition alliance.
The BNP members placed several thousand colourful banners and festoons on both sides of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway ahead of Khaleda's visit.
The local unit of the BNP-led 20-party combine is organising the rally as part of its countrywide mass campaign to create a solid ground for a decisive movement to force the current administration to quit and arrange a fresh inclusive election.
Earlier, the BNP chief went to Rajbari on March 1, Munshiganj on May 28, Joypurhat on June 22, Brahmanbaria on September 23, Jamalpur on September 27, Nilphamari October 23, Natore on November 1 and Kishoreganj on November 11 and addressed public rallies there.
Meanwhile, the Jubo Dal members alleged that the activists of Jubo League and Chhatra League have removed many banners and festoons on Friday night.
But Daudkandi police station Officer-in-Charge Abu Salam Miah said they did not receive any complaints regarding the matter.
