BNP alleged that the government is obstructing 20-party’s public rally in Comilla scheduled to be held on Saturday.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday categorically said that the government is carrying out various undemocratic acts ahead of Saturday’s rally in Comilla while he was addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Rizvi further said that the local administration and the ruling party men are intimidating our leaders and activists and removing our posters and banners and creating barriers to erecting arches in different parts of Comilla, including Daudkandi and Chandina.
Creating obstacles to the opposition’s programmes is an old habit of Awami League, they do not believe in democracy. That’s why AL does not allow them to exercise their democratic rights though it cries for democracy only to deceive people, Rizvi said.
Terming the ruling Awami League a 'parasite government', the BNP leader said a parasite government without people’s mandate is disgraceful for a nation.
The BNP-led 20 party alliance will arrange the rally at the Comilla Town Hall as part of their countrywide mass contact programme to drum up public support in favour of their demand for holding a fresh inclusive election under a non-party administration.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will address the rally as the chief guest.
Rizvi claimed that huge enthusiasm has been created among the people of Comilla and its adjoining areas over the rally.
