Customs officials arrested a Pakistani national with1.17 crore Indian Rupees at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Thursday.
The detainee is identified as Mohammad Selim, a Pakistani national.
Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Ruhul Amin said Selim reached the airport by a flight of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from Karachi at around 12:15 pm.
When Selim received his luggage from the conveyor belt, customs officials challenged him and found the presence of foreign currencies after scanning a box containing a tea table, he said.
The Indian Rupees were kept hidden inside the tea table in a unique way, he added.
Selim was detained and he will be handed over to Airport police on completion of the legal procedures, the customs officer said.
