2 killed in Jhenidah ‘gunfight’

Two alleged criminals were killed in a gunfight with police on Bypass road in Bhutiargati area of the district town early Tuesday.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Azbahar Ali Sheikh, additional superintendent of Jhenidah police, said a patrol team tried to stop three motorcycles on the road around 4am for their suspicious movement, reports unb.

The challenged bike riders fired and hurled crude bombs towards police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

Two criminals received bullet injuries and others managed to flee away.

Later the duo were rushed to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Three police constables -- Bulbul Ahmed, Alamgir Hossain and Nasim-were also injured in the incident.

Police also recovered 2 shooter guns, 2 rounds of bullets and 5 crude bombs from the spot.
