A mobile court on Thursday morning sentenced nine fishermen to 10 days’ imprisonment each for catching Hilsa defying the ban.
Executive magistrate Sumon Chandra Das said a team led by him conducted a drive from Wednesday night to Thursday morning in the Padma River, along with different areas of Sadar Upazila, and arrested nine fishermen.
The team also seized three mounds of Hilsa fish and 90,000 meters of illegal nets.
Later, the mobile court sentenced each of the detained fishermen to 10 days’ imprisonment.
The government has imposed a ban on catching, selling, transportation and hoarding of Hilsa from 12 October to 2 November.
