Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia on Sunday said the Tajia procession of the Shia community during Ashura has to complete within a specific time in the capital.
He came up with the remarks while addressing a meeting on the law and order on holy Ashura at the DMP headquarters, UNB reports.
Shia community members will take out a Tajia procession from Old Dhaka’s Hoseni Dalan on the occasion of Ashura to be observed in the country on October 12.
The DMP commissioner said police provide security during festivals of all religions as the government is committed to ensuring peaceful celebrations.
He said the Tajia processions must be end on the designated routes within a specific timeframe in the capital. “The procession of a particular area can’t enter another place,” he said adding that no firecrackers will be allowed to explode during Ashura.
Asaduzzaman said everyone will be allowed to enter Hoseni Dalan, Karbala and Bibika Rawja only after security screening through hand metal detectors and archways on Ashura. “No one will be allowed to enter the venues carrying bags, tiffin boxes and pressure cookers,” he added.
Even, the participants of the Tajia procession cannot enter the venues without going through the security screening. Besides, they cannot carry knives, swords and spears during the Tajia procession, the DMP commissioner said.
He said each Tajia procession must have adequate number of volunteers wearing jackets so that anyone can easily identify them.
Representatives of Tajia procession committees, intelligence agencies, Dhaka North and South City Corporations and senior DMP officials attended the meeting.
