At least three militants including Tamim Chowdhruy, the mastermind of Gulshan militant attack were killed on Saturday morning during a special drive of the joint forces in a militant den in Paikpara area of Narayanganj.
Earlier, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) started busting a den of New JMB, a new offshoot of banded militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), after its discovery in Sadar upazila of Narayanganj district on Saturday morning.
Sanwar, additional deputy commissioner of the Bomb Disposal Unit of CTTC, said acting on a tip-off, the DMP’s special unit unearthed the New JMB’s den on the third floor of a three-storey building at Paikpara beside Boro Koborsthan at about 6:00am and started an operation in the militant hideout.
Police cordoned off the area and evacuated the occupants of the building.
There were sporadic sounds of firing as the militants from inside the building were firing blank shots, said the CTTC office.
