Faridpur school building collapse kills 1 hurts 50

A man was killed and 50 people were injured after a school building collapsed at Belbana in Alfadanga upazila of the district on Friday.


The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rubel Hadi, 40, son of Azizur Rahman of Dighal Bana village in the upazila, UNB reports.


Bana union parishad chairman Humayun Kabir Babu said a group of people was witnessing a friendly football match at the school ground from the rooftop of the tin-shed building in the afternoon.


The building collapsed around 6:00pm when they were getting down from it hurriedly after the match, leaving Rubel dead on the spot.


The injured were taken to Alfadanga and Boalmari upazila health complexes from where critically injured three were shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, said chairman Humayun Kabir Babu.


Meanwhile, four-year-old boy, Rakibul Hasan, was killed and two people, including his mother Fatema Khanam, 34, were injured after a wall of their house collapsed at Rajuarghona in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar around 3 pm, said Hoanak union parishad chairman Mostafa Kamal.
