A court here on Tuesday sentenced six people to death and three others to life term imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in 2001.
The lifers are Anwara Begum, Abdul Motaleb and Samsuddin of the same village.
According to the prosecution, Sanaullah Sarkar, 19, an SSC examinee and son of Jashim Uddin of Ghagtia village in the upazila had developed an affair with the daughter of Anwara Begum, and both families had been at loggerheads over the issue.
Asaduzzaman, brother of the victim, filed a case against 12 people with Kapasia Police Station the following day.
Later, police submitted chargesheet against the nine people.
After hearing witnesses and examining the records, Additional District and Sessions Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiya handed down the verdict in presence of all the convicts in the dock.
