A short film depicting causes and consequences of fatal tendency of suicide was premiered on Sunday at the seminar room of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Directed by Asad Sarkar, the 22-minute film titled ‘Stop Suicide’ makes an emotional appeal for life as opposed to death.
The film incorporates several stories in which young people try to kill themselves, for reasons such as rejection from a loved one or failure at exams. Despite initially attempting or contemplating suicide, out of depression and frustration, they gather the courage to get back to life.
Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu was present at the premier show on Sunday, along with the academy’s director general Liaquat Ali Lucky.
In his speech, the minister said, “Killing oneself or other people are both crimes. No amount of reasoning justifies killing, no matter what the odds.”
Liaquat Ali Lucky said the film will be shown at anti-suicide seminars and campaigns across the country.
‘Stop Suicide’ features mostly a young cast in various roles, including Payel, Hashem Chisty, Shuvro Rana, Shahnewaz Chowdhury, and Parvez Chowdhury.
