13 suspected militants held from Kushtia medical dorms

Police in separate drives arrested 13 people, including a teacher and eight students, along with jihadi books from the dormitories of Medical Assistant Training School (MATS) and Medical College in Kushtia town on Tuesday.


Additional assistant superintendent of Kushtia Police Joynul Abedin said a team of police conducted the drive at the dormitory of Kushtia MATS  around 12pm as part of the government’s anti-militancy campaign, UNB reports.


During the one-and-half-hour drive, police detained eight students and a teacher of the institution and recovered a good number of jihadi books from the dormitory, he added.


Police is suspecting that the detained students might have links to Islami Chhatra Shibir.


Later, the detainees were taken to Kushtia Model Police Station for interrogation, the additional ASP added.


Besides, another drive, led by Kushtia senior police super Nur –e-Alam Siddique, was conducted at a hostel of Kushtia Medical College in the evening.


During the drive, police arrested four people from the hostel and recovered some jihadi books.


However, police did not disclose the identity of the arrestees.
